Major terror attack averted
A major terror attack was averted on Wednesday night when IDF troops along the Egyptian border fired on a terrorist, causing him to drop his 15-kilo (33-pound) bomb and flee back into Egypt.
IDF sources said it was possible that the suspected terrorist was from the Gaza Strip and had crossed into the Sinai Peninsula with the intention of then crossing into Israel to carry out an attack.
The military has been following attempts to carry out attacks through the 'U-route', where Gazan terrorists leave Gaza towards the Egyptian Sinai, then turn back and infiltrate Israel via the porous Israel-Egypt border.
Channel 10 quoted security officials as assuming the device was either meant to be used in Eilat, Israel's southernmost town, or the terrorist was to be driven to a major central Israeli city and create a multiple-casualty attack.
For those of you who think we no longer have an issue with terror or that those smuggling tunnels under Gaza are innocent, you're wrong.
