"The Jewish Defence League of Canada will hold a counter protest against the BDS program on Thursday September 10th.

Dear (Contact First Name),

A protest by haters of Israel, 'filmmakers' and 'artists' opposed to a Toronto International Film Festival program that spotlights Tel Aviv is growing, with plans to hold a press conference Thursday to coincide with the festival's opening.
This anti Israel protest is part of an international campaign called 'boycott, divestment and sanctions' or BDS. The purpose of this BDS campaign is to distract attention away from Radical Iran's Nuclear plans and to allow Hamas and Hezbollah to attain more weapons.

The Jewish Defence League of Canada will hold a counter protest against the BDS program on Thursday September 10th.

The exact time and location will be announced.

The Jewish Defence League of Canada is calling upon all decent people to join with us and raise Israel and Canada flags high and proud.

Jewish Defence League of Canada to lead a Protest to Expose and Confront J Street

Jewish Defence League of Canada to lead a Protest to Expose and Confront J Street

PROTEST!!
EXPOSE AND CONFRONT J STREET

President Obama is more concerned with a few homes built for Jews in Israel, than Radical Iran building a Nuclear Bomb pointed at Israel
!!

The Jewish Defence League of Canada is calling upon all supporters of Israel to join with us, as we will Confront and Expose J Street at their 1st National Conference in Washington DC. In Late October, J Street will have a major conference in Washington DC. Many of their supporters fund groups that call for a boycott of Israel and refer to Israel as an "Apartheid State". In an effort to apply pressure on Israel, President Obama has given support to J Street and wants J Street to represent the Jewish People. It should be understood that much of J Street's monetary support comes from Arabs and Muslims. J Street's Moslem, Arab Donors are Revealed

Open Letter to the United Church of Canada from the Jewish Defence League of Canada

Open Letter to the United Church of Canada from the Jewish Defence League of Canada

August 06, 2009.

To whom it may concern:

The United Church of Canada, will be voting on four anti-Jewish / Israel resolutions at its 40th General Council in Kelowna, British Columbia, August 9-15, 2009. The meetings take place on the campus of the University of British Columbia - Okanogan.

The four resolutions call for a "comprehensive boycott of Israeli academic and cultural institutions at the national and international levels" and refer to the recent assault on Gaza as a "visible reminder of the ongoing Israeli regime of exclusion, violence and dehumanization directed against Palestinians."

It is suggested that Israel was "built mainly on land ethnically cleansed of its Palestinian owners," and makes reference to the effectiveness of boycotts when dealing with state-sponsored racial discrimination and violence, as was the case in South Africa.

In the past few years, anti Jewish / Israel groups have attempted to infiltrate Canadian Organizations in order to vilify Israel and the Jewish People. Please read the following shocking information from the Ottawa Citizen May 8, 2007:

Canadian antiwar activists sat down with terror groups…

“Canadian activists were out in force at a recent conference in Cairo that sought to forge closer links between the international antiwar movement and Islamic resistance groups, including several on Canada's terrorism list.”

There is an obvious agenda. I urge all supporters of the United Church of Canada to reject the anti Jewish / Israel motions at your conference and rather than allow the name of your organization to be used as a platform to vilify the Jewish State (the only democratic and diverse nation in the entire middle east) it would be more appropriate to recognize the major contributions that Israel has made in the fields of technology, medicine and improvements in world health.

Thank you,

Jewish Defence League Parsha and Weekly Update

Jewish Defence League Parsha and Weekly Update

Rabbi Dov Begon, the Rosh Yeshiva of Machon Meir wrote the following about the Torah Parsha this week, 'Pashat Balak'.

Wicked Bilaam, in his desire to curse Israel, was instead forced to bless them, in accordance with G-d's will. His gaze encompassed the Jewish People from the start of time until the end of time. Of the start of time he said, "'I see [this nation] from mountain tops, and gaze on it from the heights. It is a nation dwelling alone at peace, not counting itself among other nations" (Numbers 23:9). Rashi commented, "I gaze at their inception, at their earliest roots, and I see that their Patriarchs and Matriarchs rendered them as strong and formidable as these mountains and hills "They shall not cease to exist with the rest of the nations, but shall live on eternal"
In later generations, the Jewish People exits Egypt and conquers Canaan. Then, their might and valor are revealed: "G-d shall devour His enemy nations, grinding their bones and piercing them with His arrows. Israel crouches, lies like a lion, like an awesome lion, who will dare rouse him" (24:8-9).
Finally, regarding the end of days, Bilaam states, "I will advise you about what this nation will do to your people in the final days". I see it, but not now; I perceive it, but not in the near future. A star shall go forth from Jacob, and a staff shall arise in Israel, crushing all of Moab's princes, and dominating all of Seth's descendants.... but Israel shall be triumphant" (24:14,17-18).
In the end, Bilaam offers an illustration: "Alas! Who can survive G-d's devastation? Warships shall come from the ports of the Kittim, and they will lay waste Assyria and Eber. But in the end they too shall be destroyed forever" (24:23-24). Rabbi Yochanan comments on this example:
"Woe to the nation that will be around when G-d redeems His children! Who would dare place his garment between the male and female lion when they are about to mate" (Sanhedrin 106a). Woe to the nation that would ever consider delaying Israel during the ingathering of the exiles, when Israel and G-d are gathering together and uniting in Eretz Yisrael (see Rashi, ibid.).
Today, we are living in that very generation. The Jewish People have been gathering together into Eretz Yisrael over the past hundred years. We see clearly how Bilaam's words are coming true, how G-d punishes all the nations that try to hold up Israel's redemption, and those nations disappear from the stage of history. The Ottoman Empire, which at the beginning of our national rebirth schemed against the Jewish population, fell apart. The British Empire, which received a mandate to assist the Jewish People in establishing a state, and betrayed its mission, decreeing the White Paper against them and preventing them from coming to Israel to settle, fell apart. The Soviet Empire, which armed the Arab countries and helped them directly and indirectly to attack the State of Israel, fell apart.
In our own day as well, the countries of Europe and the United States have joined together to establish an Arab state in the very heart of our country, the land of our life's blood, and that state would endanger our existence. Those countries will most certainly meet the same fate as those empires that disintegrated. The Arab countries and Iran, which do not stop for a moment their concrete military preparations to attack our country, will be the living fulfillment of Bilaam's words: "A star shall go forth from Jacob, and a staff shall arise in Israel, crushing all of Moab's princes, and dominating all of Seth's descendants"

I would like the reader to ponder these following policy statements that threaten the existance of Israel as a Jewish State.

  • A major Think Tank that is located just up the street from the White House, has proposed that a Third Party should govern Jerusalem Proposal: 3rd-Party to Rule Jlem.
  • Yariv Oppenheimer the current Secretary General of Peace Now in Israel, and a major leader in the campaign for Israel to give up land, stated the following: "This (Netanyahu Government's) outrageous and arrogant approach from one side taking it upon itself to decide for the other side will never lead to a peace agreement or reconciliation between the two peoples. On the contrary, a forceful, patronizing approach will lead the moderate Palestinian government to reject the crumbs Israel is throwing its way and cause it to lean towards the more extremist side which advocates violent resistance against the occupation, instead of negotiation. If Netanyahu continues to speak and act like he did at Bar Ilan, the third intifada will be just around te corner. But this time, international support will be firmly for the Palestinian side." JPost.com BlogCentral Building Bridges Netanyahu government ...
  • According to the Toronto Star June 28th article by Haroon Siddiqui about the anti Israel International Conference sponsored by York University: "On June 5, Marshall Cohen, chair of the board of governors, and Paul Cantor, chair-designate, joined him in another statement:"
  • "These issues are discussed on a daily basis in all parts of the world, especially in the Middle East, including Israel. There is no reason why they should not be discussed at a university in Canada."
  • The York senate asserted the right of "universities to organize and host academic conferences free from government intervention." What's discussed openly in Israel is toxic in Toronto

For Israel to be a Strong Jewish State, there must be Strong Jewish Unity. Which in simple terms means that the Jewish People must understand what it means to be Jewish and what is our true connection to the Land of Israel. From an understanding of these concepts must emerge a Jewish People that is unified and determined not to submit to anti Israel propaganda. And it is the mandate of the Jewish Defence League to expose and confront all of these threats to the Jewish State. One of the major threats is when anti Zionist 'Jewish' academicsattempt to join major Jewish Groups and influence the policy and direction from within. This is happening now: Israpundit » Blog Archive » Hillel Student Leaders Participate in ... Think-Israel

I hesitated whether to accept the invitation to participate in the conference at York University on "Models of Statehood in Israel/Palestine."

Such conferences, even when organized with goodwill, are frequently hijacked and become anti-Israeli events. However, the dilemma is always whether to leave the floor only to the most extreme and one-sided views, or to try to bring a different voice, one that attempts to display the complexity of the situation and presents a perspective that would not be presented if one were to stay away.

Reaction to the pressure put on the conference and the Jewish Defense League's (JDL) activity against it, and the desire to present such a voice seemed good reasons to take part, and not to surrender to attempts to silence debate and curb academic freedom.

Although the extreme manner in which they were presented was sometimes hard to hear, I was not surprised by the same Palestinian arguments that have been around for decades.

Thus, we heard that Israel is a racist, apartheid state; that the Palestinians are the "indigenous" and Zionists the colonials; that the only reason for the unwillingness of Jewish Israelis to give up a Jewish national state is their unwillingness to surrender power and privileges; and that Zionism has an inherent tendency toward war crimes.

Unfortunately, this was not accompanied with introspection or self-criticism by the Palestinians. Hamas was not mentioned at all. Apparently it does not exist in the virtual map of the Palestinian participants. Another "marginal" phenomenon that disappeared as if it did not exist is the lethal Palestinian terror against Israeli citizens.

But if all this was quite an expected scenario, not in my worst dreams did I imagine an atmosphere that was totally incompatible with academic discourse. The university rightly resisted outside pressures aimed at silencing the conference. But there were attempts at the conference itself to silence unpopular views.

A hostile atmosphere toward people with different views generally, and Jewish-Zionist Israelis in particular, was created. Anyone who challenged the Palestinian perspective was intimidated or even labelled a racist. The audience vocally applauded those whose views it approved. At times, those presenting a different view were subject to abuse and ridicule.

For me, this reached an extreme when one interlocutor, rather than debating the substantive arguments I presented, questioned my psychological state. And all of this without any apparent attempt by the organizers to stop it. Never before in my whole academic career have I encountered the rudeness that I experienced at this conference.

Academic discourse implies in-depth analysis of issues, even loaded ones, theorizing and making well-based arguments. Reasoned criticism is a first-degree instrument for the advancement of academic knowledge. Ad-hominem offence and the silencing of unpopular views are its antithesis. If one has good arguments, one doesn't need to resort to such tactics. As an Israeli politician once reputedly wrote on the side of his written text: "Here the argument is weak, raise your voice."

After my presentation, people approached me to thank me for presenting an alternative view. They admitted that in the prevailing atmosphere they were deterred from stepping forward and expressing a different voice. This is a disgrace for the academic host of this conference. I'd very much want to believe that the organizers were only naive. It's more difficult to accept that there was no agenda, explicit or hidden, to this conference

The Palestinians' pain and rage are understandable. But what happened at York University reflects a worrying, dangerous and, unfortunately, not uncommon pattern. Persons who demand the protection of human rights abandon them and display little tolerance for the views of others when they have the power to marginalize them. This provides food for thought. Surely such tolerance would be a sine qua non in the liberal democratic state that many participants in the conference purport to support.

The universities that sponsored this conference should give themselves an accounting. While the JDL demonstrated outside the campus, a pro-Palestinian demonstration took place inside the conference itself, from the floor, under an academic disguise.

This was not an academic conference, but an "academic" version of Durban.

A Deceptive Campaign of Misinformation is Being Used to Destroy the State of Israel.

A campaign of hate has permeated our campuses and one by one, they are being taken over.

The upcoming conference (to be held at York University, Glendon Campus), calls for a “One State Solution” – a euphemism for the destruction of the State of Israel - a trope of the most extreme rejectionist elements within the Palestinian movement and their allies in Syria and Iran. Terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah want to create an Islamic Republic in place of Israel.

Alan Dershowitz adds:

“The one-state solution proposal now being made by Palestinian lawyers and some anti-Israel academics is nothing more than a ploy. It is designed to destroy the Jewish state of Israel and to substitute another Islamic Arab state. “

Why we oppose this Conference…

“Israel/Palestine: Mapping Models of Statehood and Paths to Peace”

Conference co-sponsored by York University and Queen’s University

June 22-24, 2009 Glendon Campus

Under the seemingly innocuous title of this Conference, and the soothing reference to "peace", many speakers at this event will be promoting the "one-state solution" as the best option to end the Arab-Israeli conflict by eliminating the State of Israel.

  • It denies the Jewish people – and the Jewish people alone – their national rights in their ancestral land (Zionism), as they were recognized in international law 89 years ago (San Remo Conference)

  • It promotes anti-Zionism while pretending that this debate is not anti-Semitic. But what could be more anti-Semitic than selectively denying to the Jews rights that all other peoples enjoy in their land?

  • It deliberately ignores the most egregious crimes committed by the Palestinian Arabs against the Jews since the 1920s in their ceaseless pursuit of violence, ethnic cleansing, indoctrination in schools, and incitement to murder and genocide while promoting a utopian, blissful cohabitation in a single bi-national state.

  • It uses the "Nakba" (flight of the Palestinian refugees in 1948) to justify the "right of return" of millions of Palestinians, and blames Israel for a situation largely encouraged by their own Arab leaders.

Statement from the Hon. Gary Goodyear

OTTAWA, June 5, 2009 – The following is a statement from the Hon. Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for Science and Technology, on the conference at York University entitled, “Israel/Palestine: mapping models of statehood and prospects for peace”.

“Our government is committed to the principle of academic independence and the independent, arms-length, peer review process for assessing applications for research grants.

“It has come to my attention that following a recommendation of a peer review board earlier this year, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council provided $19,750 under its Aid to Research Workshops and Conferences Program to a conference at York University entitled “Israel/Palestine: mapping models of statehood and prospects for peace”.

“Approval of this funding was based on an initial proposal that did not include detailed information on the speakers at the conference. Since funding was provided, the organizers of the conference have added a number of speakers to their agenda.

“Several individuals and organizations have expressed their grave concerns that some of the speakers have, in the past, made comments that have been seen to be anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic. Some have also expressed concerns that the event is no longer an academic research-focussed event.

“Therefore, I have spoken to the president of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council to bring these concerns to his immediate attention and asked that Council give them full consideration. In particular, I asked that the Council, once they have seen this information, to consider conducting a second peer review of the application to determine whether or not the conference still meets SSHRC’s criteria for funding of an academic conference.”

CIJA Urges Protest – Canadian Jewish News, May 21, 2009

TORONTO — “The Canadian Council for Israel and Jewish Advocacy (CIJA) is urging Canadian Jews to protest a conference at York University that CIJA says will “explore a one-state, bi-national solution to the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians… which would spell the end of Israel as a Jewish state.”

It has come to the attention of the JDL that a Federal Government Department has contributed to this York/Queen’s sponsored Conference.
