Israel Matzav: 'Past the point of no return'?

'Past the point of no return'?

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Tuesday that his country had passed the 'point of no return' on the road to obtaining nuclear weapons.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday that Iran had passed “the point of no return on our nuclear program. We have passed it and are now hundreds of kilometers beyond it,” and the West knows it, he said.

Speaking to Iranian state media, Ahmadinejad said that U.S. President Barack Obama “has only one chance and that is Iran. This is not emotional talk but scientific. He has but one place to say that 'I made a change and I turned over the world equation' and that is Iran.”

Meanwhile, US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates says that it will take at least another year for Iran to have a nuclear weapon.

Iran is not expected to be capable of producing nuclear weapons for at least a year, maybe more, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on Tuesday.

Asked about reported comments that Iran might be able to join the nuclear club in months, Gates said: "I don't believe it."

"I think that most estimates that I've seen, haven't changed since the last time we talked about it, which is probably at least a year, and maybe more," Gates told reporters on a flight to South America.

Who is in a better position to know Iran's capabilities? What could go wrong?
