Israel Matzav: Is Netanyahu's coalition in danger?

Is Netanyahu's coalition in danger?

Shmuel Rosner asks five questions with no good answers; number 3 ought to be forwarded to those in the Obama administration who are seeking 'regime change' in Israel.

3. Is Netanyahu's coalition in danger?

I don't think so. But all those wanting Netanyahu to dump the "right wing" and move to a more centrist coalition forget that Netanyahu isn't 80 years old and doesn't want this term to be his last. He can't - and will not - endanger the long-time relations with the right. Only a fool will trust Livni's and Barak's long term support.

Rosner's right. Unlike Arik Sharon, a majority of Netanyahu's Likud will not go with him if he tries to start a 'centrist' party. So he's stuck with the coalition he has. If the agitators in Labor succeed in getting Ehud Barak to pull out, it only makes it more likely - rather than less - that the coalition stays together as a narrow Right wing coalition.

We all remember 1992 and 1999.
