The White House uses another big word
The White House has used a new word in an escalating rhetorical war against the Netanayhu government. The word is "destructive," as in the construction of 20 (count 'em) Jewish apartments in Jerusalem's Shimon HaTzadik (Sheikh Jarrah) neighborhood is "destructive" to the 'peace process.'
The White House says it is seeking clarification of Israel's plans to build 20 new apartments in east Jerusalem. White House spokesman Tommy Vietor says the White House continues to believe that Israeli building in Jerusalem is destructive to the Middle East peace process.
He says the United States is urging both Israelis and Palestinians to refrain from acts that could undermine trust as the Obama administration looks to jump-start the stalled peace process. Vietor would not say whether President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the specific building project in their meetings at the White House late Tuesday.
Leaving aside for a minute the fact that these apartments are being built privately (the land was purchased by American Irving Moskowitz in the 1980's), for a to be destructive of b, b has to exist. The 'peace process' has not existed since the Obama administration took office and ran the 'Palestinians' up a tree of a 'total settlement freeze.' And when Israel decided to solve Obama's problem by giving the 'Palestinians' a way down from that tree, Obama did nothing to encourage them to get on the ladder.
Building Jewish homes in Jerusalem cannot be destructive of the 'peace process' because right now there is no 'peace process' to be destroyed.
The Obama administration might help itself to accomplish its goals (if they exist) by admitting the reality that right now there is no 'peace process.'
