Israel Matzav: The pride of the NJDC

The pride of the NJDC

The Republican Jewish Coalition is ripping its Democratic counterpart for the latter's support of Joe Biden's actions on his trip to Israel.

It is striking and telling that NJDC is proud of Vice President Biden’s unprecedented decision to "condemn" Israel, his snubbing Israel’s Prime Minster by showing up more than an hour-and-a-half late for dinner, and his reported tirades blaming Israel for military difficulties our troops are facing in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It is also striking and telling that in attempting to portray Biden’s harsh criticism of Israel’s government as “echoing a bipartisan American disagreement with Israel over settlement policy dating back decades” NJDC avoids directly quoting (or linking to) the statement that aroused such controversy.

I condemn the decision by the government of Israel to advance planning for new housing units in East Jerusalem...

Of course, to quote Biden’s words would call attention to the degree to which the tone of his statement departed from past diplomatic practice. In the past, administrations of both parties have taken great care to ensure that statements finding fault with a beleaguered ally are carefully calibrated.

Indeed. If you read the Democrats' statement, it sounds like it could have been written by J Street.
